Kollnburgs TOP 10

| Castle tower / castle well |
 |
The castle tower (11 m) and the castle well (17.5 m) are the landmarks of Kollnburg.
The castle was built in the middle of the 12th century to protect the treasure of the “Grafen von Bogen” who dominated the whole middle Mid-Bavarian Forest throughout the 13th Century. According to the legend, this treasure is still somewhere in the castle tower. (also see legends and myths). In 1468 the castle was partially destroyed in the “Böckler” war Since 1835, the castle tower is in bourgeois hands and now in the possession of the forest association section.

At the time of the counts the castle well was the central water supply of Kollnburg. Today, the is still some groundwater available.

These days the castle is a popular tourist destination. Every year both tourists and locals
visit the castle for cosy garden festivals in the courtyard, or climb the tower because of the fabulous panoramic view on the highest mountain peaks of the Bavarian forest. |

A particular interesting target sight in our village is the private "Motorcycle Museum" by Willi Schmid, known as "Za Willi"between locals, in the Sedlhofer street.
He lovingly restored everything connected to vintage cars and has gathered an amazing private motorcycle collection.

A tour of the collection is feasible after consultation of the owner. Admission is free! However, a donation for the preservation and expansion of his collection is welcomed by the owner.

We would be happy to organize such a tour for you. (request).

| Pröller (1.048 m) |
 |
Surely, the peak of Pröller belongs to the neighbouring community, but more than 2 / 3 of the north side of the Pröller is lying within the municipality Kollnburg.
This is only one reason why the Pröller is known as the “home mountain” of Kollnburg. Furthermore, the Pröller is jokingly called the "nearby recreation area" of Kollnburg.
The Pröller offers numerous hiking opportunities, the Pröllersteig, two restaurants, breathtaking views and excellent conditions for alpine skiing, snowboarding, sledding and snow hiking in the winter.

In short, the Pröller is not only worth seeing, but, moreover, worth to experience.

| Wild romantic garden under the castle |
 |
Right in the middle of the castle village Kollnburg, the enchanting, garden of the Zankl family with approximately 1700 square meters cuddles up to the southern side of the castle.

Several terraces with planted shrubs and stone walls are divided into different areas such as the berry garden, fruit-tree park and wild shrubs hedge. Through a "jungle path” you can get into the middle of the garden with a pond, patio, tomato pavilion, perennial beds with roses and various herbs and seating possibilities. An approximately 50 meters long bird protecting hedge, wild flowers, a herbs meadow and four great rose curves characterize the subsequent wild romantic rock garden below the castle.
About 70 different herbs and medicinal plants grow there. Waltraud Zankl has labeled them all with ceramic plates and of course knows their curative effects and different possibilities to prepare them. She explains that - in the vernacular - behind the names "witches´ milk” and “devils´ escape” the herbs “Schöllkraut” and “Johanniskraut” are hidden because of their effect.

If you are interested in a tour through the wild romantic garden, please contact the tourist info Kollnburg.

| The farmer monument in Baierweg |
 |
One of the most unusual sights in the Bavarian Forest from 1869. A monumental stone memorial at a historic place, with wonderful panoramic views.

Accourding to the tradition, Georg Biel Maier erected the monument with his servants and with the participation of the Kollnburg painter Johann B. Reisbacher to ease his guilty conscience, caused by a fraud to his deceased brother and his wife. |

| Castle stable path with the Love Rock and parish garden path |
 |
The castle stable path in Kollnburg is part of the "Baier Weg", one of the oldest bridle paths in the Bavarian forest. The old path through the prehistoric site of the castle with its attractive rock areas connects the upper and lower village.

Particularly impressive is the unique view over the forest land to the Arber from the highest point of the castle stable path – a rock area with an impressive wooden cross - which is named "Love Rocks" in the vernacular.

Burgstallweg you walk by in the direction of the church of the parish under the romantic garden following the parish garden path further in direction of the church, one will encounter the romantic parish garden path leading from below the parish garden over the castle hill to the courtyard. One view from the castle tower to the highest Bavarian Forest peaks is absolutely mandatory! |

| Nature Trail / Pröllersteig |
 |
The nature study trail "Kollnburger Pröllersteig," begins at the foot of the Pröller in Hinterviechtach. (Crossing "Pröller - ski and hiking area" at the state street Viechtach - St. Englmar). The logo "woodworm" guides you on the approximately 3.5-mile circular walk to various stations, which inform you about the history and transformation of nature and
environment in the Bavarian Forest through the last centuries. Especially in the walking area
"Pröllersteig" you can still find many rare plant species and old landscape structures. The
sign "Nature-near forestry" and "The importance of forests as water storages" illustrate the
various functions of forests. The interest of the children in nature is encouraged by various objects, which were made and donated by local city clubs. There is an opportunity for recreation at the idyllically located "Lauschecke”. After a walk of about 2 hours, the last stop "Panoramatafel" is reached. It offers a magnificent view on the Bavarian Forest peaks, that are displayed accordingly on the signs.

For hikers, who want to investigate the Pröller-walking area further, there is a connecting trail to the Pröller peak (1048 m) and to St Englmar.

The accompanying information leaflet is available in the nearby tourist information centres, and at the lodge "Zum Pröller ".

| Natural monument old oak in Kirchaitnach |
 |
The small village Kirchaitnach is characterized by an unusual village picture. Crucial for this is the completely free-standing village church in brick construction, as well as remotely lying cemetery.
This special appearance is supported by an over 130 year old oak, which is 21 m high and has a very broad treetop. The impressive tree was designated as a natural monument in 1995.

| Meditation way in the parish garden |
 |
At the suggestion of our village priest Josef Renner, we have created a meditation path with beautiful glass panels through the parish garden and around the parish yard.
The impressive glass panels are made by glass artists in the glassworks Weinfurtner.
Individuals and clubs may also be involved.

With biblical sayings and corresponding artistic images, these boards have become an enrichment for the town.
